Take Me Out to the Ball Game and a Very Beary Birthday!

Sorry it's taken me so long to post! I wasn't feeling great this week. So this post will be a catch-up.

Last Friday night we went to a baseball game! Well, technically it's a softball game (slow pitch, larger ball, in case you don't know). The kids' dad plays softball with a church league every Friday night in the summers.

After a visit to the concession stand, Charlotte and Teeny share their M&Ms with Koko.

Koko watches the girls play in the dirt. He didn't want to get his fur dirty.

Tyson brought a cool toy so he let Koko play on that on the bleachers.

Dad's up to bat! He got base hits every time!

Family pic with Koko.

As the sun started to go down we knew it was close to bedtime, so we headed out. The guys play late into the night, though.

The next day we headed out to Williamsburg for a cousin's FIRST birthday! Last year Charmin got to visit him when he was born (and Charmin came to this same park with us that day).

Here he is playing with the toy we got him as a present. It's a Curious George jack-in-the-box. He loved it!

Koko gets a pic with the birthday boy and his daddy!

First birthdays mean cake smashing, and this little man did an excellent job (with a little help from mom).

The birthday party was in a pavilion at this amazing park called Kidsburg in Williamsburg. Williamsburg (and nearby Jamestown) is an important historical location in the U.S., and it has several tourist attractions, including a very large living history town called Colonial Williamsburg. I used to work there! I was glad I wasn't working there this day, though, because it was HOT! Around 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 C).

The playground is designed to be like Jamestown Fort, with a ship and cannons. Koko perches on lookout.

Here he takes a break from guard duty to try out the tire swing with the girls.

Once they got spinning it was hard for him to hold on, but the girls did pretty well!

Next, Tyson took Koko for a ride on the zip line. Here he gets him situated in a pocket before takeoff.

And off they go!

Koko checks out the view from this rock-like slide.

Whee!

And then I gave the camera to Audrey and she took some pictures...

We had a blast at Kidsburg!

This week Tyson had a "middle school transition program" he was attending in the mornings. He is about to start 6th grade, which means he'll be going into middle school. Middle school is different from elementary school because he'll have to learn how to change classes and have a locker. I'm glad he has the chance to get used to it!

While he was at his program I took the girls to the last summer movie of the year- our local theater does $1 movie admission and plays family movies in the mornings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the summer. We went to see "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad Day," which was inspired by the book of the same title- it's always been a favorite of mine.

This was the only shot I got- as we were waiting for our popcorn! The movie was great, though. And the main character was a huge fan of Australia! In fact, the movie ended with a big Australian-themed birthday party!

Here are some excerpts from the book- whenever something goes wrong, the main character says he wishes he could go to Australia:

The end is my favorite:

Hope you are all having very GOOD days with Tag! Just a few more weeks of summer left!

  1. Amita wanted to know if Dad won his softball game. Our Dad likes to play basketball. But we don't have any church leagues in Australia. A few years ago we used to have church basketball competitions but some teams would get too competitive and so they don't happen anymore.
We love the present you got for the Birthday boy. Lizzie is obsessed with Curious George at the moment. Amita says she has a tyre swing just like the one at the park, at her Kindy. She goes really really fast on it with her friend and gets dizzy.
We've seen that movie too and thought it was a really good one. I didn't know it was a book first though so we might need to try to find it at the library.

    1. That night they played two games and Chad's team won both! We don't have an all-LDS team this year, but enough of the guys from our ward wanted to play that they joined up on a team with a local Baptist church. After every game they join hands with the other team in a circle and have a prayer, which is kind of cool- it's Baptists, Methodists, Catholics- everybody!
